No Surprises

Happy thanks giving day.

This was written to the tune of the Radiohead song, "No Surprises," so I decided to name the opem after the song. Here's a ukulele version by Amanda Palmer.

I'm such a well-loved, lovely, lonely, well-fed, ridiculously obsessed and uniquely neurotic hack. Maybe our neurosis are all unique... Maybe...

No Surprises

Falling head first in two,
A change of pace,
And so brand new,
Locked in,
Blocked in,
So you can't leave.

Perfect,
Pretty picture perfect,
White picket fence,
So perfect,
Perfect, just like you.

Like a roller coaster,
Like a movie poster,
Like a jealous boaster,
Man eating, festering.

Congratulations,
You've made it out,
We're so proud,
You're making out,
With a cloud,
Like leaving us behind...
But, no, you,
Came to see,
The show,
You, so cuddly, so pink,
And, it's not just one,
It seems, at times,
Exempt from none,
But really,
It's not that bad,
Just silly,
And sort of sad,
How they think,
How they're a tad deluded,
Every line makes sense,
Now, doesn't it?

We're fixed.

So loud, internally,
Taking it personally,
Can't talk,
Cannot speak,
I will lay me,
Down to sleep.....

Long pause,
Paper clauses.

Perhaps,
Years went by,
As we slept,
But did not die,
Day light came,
Before the night,
And they fell,
Falling head first in two,
It's me and it is you,
He caught her in his arms,
Though she sinned,
He saw the charm,
Of love in,
A deck of cards,
So shuffling,
They cut and then they drew,
Put the pieces back together,
Splitting him right down the center,
Shedding light,
Where his insides had not seen.

The story changes things,
The memories, burn like strings,
They're shriveled and gone now,
If we let them go.

And sisters,
They will play with you,
Like the day the love bug bit you,
Soon we will all lay down and go to sleep,
We will all lay down and go to sleep,
We will all lay down and we all will chill out.
